I hope you all enjoyed your Easter weekend. And now we’re jumping straight into Spring Break, so let’s see if I can help you get a feel for what to do this week if you don’t have any plans.

CIVIC HIGHLIGHTS

The Road to Smith's and Lowe's: Land Swap Goes to Council

Tuesday's City Council meeting includes a vote on a land exchange with SITLA (School and Institutional Trust Lands Administration) in the Overland development area. The city would return about 20 acres of a bypass road that was set aside in 2005 but is no longer part of the transportation plan. In exchange, the city receives roughly 20 acres of road rights-of-way for future streets like Mid-Valley Road, Desert Willow Drive, and Aviator Avenue.

Why this matters to you: this exchange removes a key obstacle for the developer to move forward with the Smith's Marketplace and Lowe's project that residents have been asking about. A related agreement on Tuesday's agenda also includes provisions for a future 35-acre school site in the Overland area. The council will vote on both items during the Policy Session, which begins at 7 PM at City Hall (1650 E Stagecoach Run). The broader meeting starts at 4 PM with a closed work session, so you can’t attend until 7 PM.

Parks and Trails Master Plan: Public Hearing Tuesday

The city has updated its Parks, Trails, and Open Space Master Plan and is holding a public hearing to finalize it. Since the last update in 2020, Eagle Mountain has added nearly 87 acres of parkland and about 34 miles of trails. But the population has almost doubled in that same period, so park and trail access per resident has actually gone down.

The plan identifies gap areas where park service is lacking, particularly in the northwest corridor and central Eagle Mountain, and sets priorities for future trail connections and park development. If you have opinions about where playgrounds, trails, or sports fields should go next, this is your chance to weigh in. Same meeting, Tuesday at 7 PM.

Also on Tuesday's Agenda

Two other public hearings to be aware of:

1) A proposed noise ordinance update would allow sound levels up to 75 decibels in Industrial and Light Manufacturing zones during restricted hours (currently 65 dB). This is relevant if you live near the industrial corridors east of town.
2) The council is also holding a public input session on the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG), a federal program that funds projects benefiting lower-income residents.

Both hearings are open to public comment Tuesday evening. See the complete agenda here.

THIS WEEK

Preschool Enrollment Is Open Right Now

I wanted to take a bit of space in this newsletter to help parents who are registering their young ones for preschool. If you have a child turning 4 by September 1, here are some important details that might help as you explore your options.

Public Options
Alpine School District runs preschool programs at several Eagle Mountain elementary schools for $150/month. These are two-day-per-week programs (Monday/Thursday or Tuesday/Friday) where your child learns alongside kids of different abilities. Registration is first-come, first-served through ASD's Hometown Ticketing system, and spots do fill.

Some schools also offer free Title I preschool for families within specific boundaries.

Schools with confirmed peer model programs include Desert Sky, Hidden Hollow, Mountain Trails, Pony Express, and Silver Lake. Additional Eagle Mountain schools may also offer programs. Check the ASD Preschool page for the full list and registration details.

Private Options
There are several private preschools across Eagle Mountain, and most are enrolling now for fall 2026. A few things worth knowing as you look into them:

  • Programs vary a lot. Some offer full-day care (helpful if both parents work), while others run just a few hours, two or three days a week. Ask about schedules before you compare pricing.

  • Spots fill. If a program looks like a good fit, don't wait to reach out. Many of the smaller programs have limited capacity.

  • Most providers are happy to let you visit or schedule a tour before you commit.

Here are a few to start with:

Contact providers directly to confirm current rates and availability. For a broader list of preschools and daycares in Eagle Mountain, check out Winnie's directory.

At-Home Options
If your child is younger (turning 4 after September 1), you can register now for Waterford UPSTART, a free state-funded program that helps kids get kindergarten-ready from home in about 15 minutes a day. You'll be notified when the next enrollment window opens for your child.

Tulip Festival Opens Wednesday

The annual Tulip Festival at Ashton Gardens in Lehi starts April 6. Hours are 9 AM-8 PM, Monday through Saturday. If you're looking for the signature spring break outing, this is it. It's about a 20-minute drive and runs for several weeks, so no rush if this week doesn't work. Learn more here.

This Week at the Library

Spring break programming runs all week.
Today: Play N' Learn (historically 10:30 AM-Noon, but the current calendar says 8:00 AM-6:00 PM; ages 0-5). Tuesday: Teen Activity (5-7 PM). Storytime runs Tuesday through Thursday. Laptime for infants on Friday (10:15 AM). New this week: Adult Book Club meets Thursday, April 9. Copies of this month's selection are available at the front desk. Given that there are about 30,000 - 35,000 adults here, we’re only 1% of the way to connecting with all Eagle Mountain locals. We’re so close! (Here’s the obligatory /s if you didn’t catch my sarcasm…😜) If you feel like helping me out, just feel free to send someone to eaglemountainvalue.com or forward them this email (see subscribe link and QR code below).
