I'm rebuilding my website, and I could use your help.
Right now the site is just an archive of old issues, which isn't worth much. Nobody goes back and rereads a newsletter. What I want instead is one place where everything I dig up about Eagle Mountain lives: events, what the city has been up to, volunteer opportunities, places worth going, etc.
I've sketched out a layout based on what you told me in my surveys and what the USU study found. Before I build it, I want to know what you'd actually use.
So if you've ever thought, "Gee-golly willikers, Batman, I sure wish there was one place to find [X], or learn more about [Y]. Now that would be just fine and dandy." Then I want to know about it.
Reply to this email with whatever comes to mind. I'd be grateful for it. My goal is building a website that actually brings something to this community.
One caveat: I can't build anything fancy. No apps. But a site that keeps track of what's happening around here and makes it easy to find, that I can do.

AT CITY HALL
The Planning Commission meets Tuesday, September 8 at City Hall. The work session starts at 5:30 p.m. The policy session starts at 6:30 p.m. If you want to speak at one of Tuesday's public hearings, show up at 6:30 p.m.
Here is what is on the agenda that I believe matters to you:
Two public hearings on water and sewer plans. The city's sewer plant is close to full. Engineers say that making it bigger is an "immediate and urgent need," and doing it costs $188 million. Both plans will be presented for the commission to learn about and comment on.
A first look at zoning for Cedar Pass Ranch. The neighborhood has been inside the city since 1996, and the city has never had clear zoning rules on the books for it. Staff say that gap has caused confusion for years. Two versions of a new zone are on the table, written mostly by a neighborhood committee and the HOA board. This one is a discussion item.
What matters most. If you live in Cedar Pass Ranch, the zoning discussion sets the rules for your property, and this is the first proposal to get this far. For everyone else, the water and sewer plans are the bigger item. Work this size has to get paid for, and how much of it lands on your utility bill is a question I'm working on.
How to speak up. The two public hearings are at the 6:30 p.m. session Tuesday. There's no hearing on the Cedar Pass Ranch item, so you can't comment on that one Tuesday. But if you have concerns about the water and sewer work, this is the meeting where you can say so on the record. COMMUNITY NOTES
The 9/11 Day of Service is Friday, September 11. The city holds it every year on the anniversary of 9/11, to remember the people who died that day and to thank the first responders who work here now. It starts with a flag ceremony for first responders at 7:00 a.m. at Cedar Valley High School (CVHS), and anyone can come. The Hero Parade lines up at 9:00 and rolls out from CVHS at 9:15, with first responders, the mayor, council members and city staff driving past eleven schools. The Days of Service runs Tuesday, September 15 through Thursday, September 17, 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. each day. The city is asking people to give some of that time back to the community, and points to JustServe as the place to go find something to do.
Eagle Mountain Academy starts Wednesday, September 16. It's the behind-the-scenes version of how the city works, with sessions named "Meet the City," "How the City Grows" and "The City's Inner Workings," held at different spots around town instead of sitting in one classroom. I've done it, and I'm going again this fall, so you'll see me there. It runs six Wednesday evenings, 6:30 to 8:30, with no class October 14 and a celebration November 4. To participate, check out the requirements here. Know that the city asks you to plan on making at least five of the six meetings.
The library is collecting toys and gifts for neighbors in need. New and unwrapped, for local kids and teens who might not have much else waiting for them this holiday season. Items will be accepted through Saturday, December 12. Drop them off at 1650 East Stagecoach Run. The library is open Monday through Thursday 10 to 8, Friday 10 to 6, and Saturday 10 to 2. Call 801-789-6623 with questions.
EM30 Challenge. The city turns 30 on December 3, and it wants residents to mark it by picking some kind of exercise built around the number 30. Walk, run, bike or hike 30 miles in Eagle Mountain. Hike 30 different trails. Get outside for 30 minutes a day. Round up 30 friends for a walk. Walk 30 different dogs. If that sounds like your kind of thing, take photos as you go, then send one in with a short description when you finish. You get an EM30 sticker and an entry in a December drawing for anniversary prizes.

Hot air balloons set up at Midvalley Fields, across Pony Express Parkway on the east side. Arrive between 7:00 and 7:30 a.m. to watch them set up and launch, before the event opens.

History of Camp Floyd Day, 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Camp Floyd and Stagecoach Inn State Park in Fairfield, just west of Eagle Mountain on SR-73. $5 a person or $15 for an immediate family. Exhibits and demonstrations of camp life, the graves of soldiers who died in service, museum artifacts from the camp's years in operation, and a tour of the Stagecoach Inn, which ran from 1858 to 1947. Festival Latinoamericano final day, 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., Utah County Historic Courthouse, 51 S University Ave, Provo. Free. Vendors, food and performances.
