Hey Eagle Mountain. Colten here.

I hope everyone is having a great week. My wife is finally starting to feel better after having a chest cold for nearly two weeks. It was a nasty one too. Fortunately, the rest of the family didn’t get it as bad. Stay healthy, Eagle Mountain!

And thanks to everyone who filled out the weekly polls. The Christmas one was a fun one. Check out the results below.

AT CITY HALL

The City Council met Wednesday, November 4. I'll have a recap of that meeting in Monday's issue on November 9.

The City Council holds a special meeting on the speed study results Tuesday, November 10 at 5:00 p.m. at the Public Works Building. The Planning Commission meets the same night at 5:30 p.m. Its public hearings start at 6:30 p.m. One of the hearings focuses on the city's proposed water rights rules. The other public hearing is focused on the Ranch House Storage proposal, which would change what can legally be built on about 10 acres on Pole Canyon Blvd. The City Council's next regular meeting is Tuesday, November 17.

Here are the results of Monday’s polls.

COMMUNITY NOTES

The Veterans Breakfast is now Saturday, November 14. In Monday's issue, I listed it as Saturday, November 7. The city has since changed the date on its event page. It runs 6:00 to 8:00 a.m. at The Barn at Overland, 1713 Erickson Knoll Ln.

Junior Jazz registration was extended to Sunday, November 8. Regular registration for Junior Jazz, the city's youth basketball program, was extended because of "some payment processing problems." Junior Jazz is for kindergarten through 8th grade. Late registration runs November 9 through 15 and closes at 11:59 p.m. on November 15. After that, players go on a waiting list. If you already registered, you don't need to do anything. Register on the city's recreation site under "Youth Sports / Programs Registration."

Seven EM30 treasure chests were still hidden as of Wednesday night. For Eagle Mountain's 30th anniversary, the city hid 30 treasure chests in parks, on trails and at landmarks around town. Each chest has a riddle that points to where it's hidden. As of Wednesday night, November 4, 23 had been found. The hunt ends Tuesday, December 1, or when the last chest is found. It's free and open to Eagle Mountain residents with no registration. Each household can claim one prize, a package of Eagle Mountain-themed items and community swag worth $250. The riddles are on the city's post, and the city shares hints on its social media. If you find a chest, take a selfie with it and email the photo and the location to [email protected]. Then bring the chest and the numbered card inside it to the City Council meeting on Tuesday, December 1 by 6:50 p.m. If you can't make that meeting, you can email the city to arrange another pickup. (Rules)

You can nominate a family in need for a Thanksgiving dinner. The Eagle Mountain Senior Council is working with local businesses to provide Thanksgiving dinners to families in need this year. Nominate an Eagle Mountain individual or family on the city's nomination form with their name, phone number and address, and a short note on why you're nominating them. You can stay anonymous. (City post)

Free job help is available every Wednesday at the Valley Crossroads Chamber. Employment counselors from the Utah Department of Workforce Services help with job searches, career options, resumes and interviews, Wednesdays from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the Valley Crossroads Chamber of Commerce, 3688 E Campus Dr. #101. No appointment is needed. (City post)

The city has a new AI assistant called Emmie. Emmie answers questions about city services and takes issue reports and service requests at any hour. Emmie can also pass your request to city staff. To use Emmie, click the chat icon on eaglemountain.gov or text "Hello" to 855-763-6643. Emmie isn't for emergencies; for those, call 911. (City post)

Registration is open for Snapology's winter robotics and coding classes. The city's recreation department is offering the classes for 1st through 6th graders on Thursdays, January 14 through February 18, from 4:30 to 5:45 p.m. at the Senior Center. Register on the recreation site.

The city holds an open house on the proposed aviation hub Monday, November 23. The city is studying plans for a hub where companies that build drones and new aircraft could test, set up shop and hire. The open house runs 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at City Hall. The city's event page says you can learn about the proposed hub, what type of aircraft will fly and what jobs will be available. The page also lists "how will we preserve our way of life" among the topics. Fortem Technologies is bringing its Drone Hunter. (Event page)
