Hey Eagle Mountain. Colten here.
How many of you saw the fire in Saratoga earlier this week? The fact that it’s hot, dry, and windy is a bit concerning to me, but I’ve got something to say about that below.
Here’s what’s going on this week.

WILDFIRE WARNING
Stage 1 fire restrictions are now in effect on land outside city limits in Utah County.
Last weekend, two wildfires broke out on Lake Mountain in Saratoga Springs, both started by target shooting. The first burned 175 acres and forced evacuations near the Saratoga Springs Temple. The second ignited the following day nearby.
The restrictions don't apply inside Eagle Mountain, but the city is asking residents to follow them anyway. Fire doesn't stop at a boundary line.
What's restricted on land outside city limits:
Open fires outside approved campgrounds or home fire pits
Smoking near dry vegetation
Fireworks, tracer ammo, and exploding targets
Off-road engines or equipment without a spark arrestor (a device that prevents engine sparks from escaping)
Violations can result in up to six months in jail and a $1,000 fine.
If you're heading out to shoot:
Use a clear dirt backstop
Avoid hot, windy days
Know whether you're on city land or outside it

Planning Commission recap — June 9
Three items advanced from Tuesday's meeting:
Senior Housing Overlay Zone — the commission voted to recommend the new 55+ zoning framework to City Council. It still needs Council approval before it takes effect. The framework would make it easier to build age-restricted housing — single-level homes, twin homes, duplexes, and rambler-style condos — so long-term residents have options to downsize without leaving Eagle Mountain.
Area 7 Annexation — the city is considering adding a new area of land to Eagle Mountain's boundaries, southeast toward Utah Lake. A key reason: recently discovered rare earth mineral deposits in the Lake Mountains. The commission took public comment Tuesday. FYI, no one submitted any. Residents have until approximately June 19 to submit written feedback to [email protected]. The proposal returns for another public hearing before going to City Council.

Consolidated fee schedule — the commission also recommended approval of updated building permit and inspection fees. These head to City Council next and are not yet in effect.
