THIS WEEK IN EAGLE MOUNTAIN

A few highlights from Tuesday’s City Council meeting (Feb 3):

New City Recorder & Board Appointments

Lacie Messerly was sworn in as Eagle Mountain's new City Recorder. The Council also appointed three new board and commission members: Marcia Vasquez to the Library Board (3-year term), Mandy Lane to the Planning Commission (1-year term), and Chad Decoursey as a Planning Commission alternate (3-year term). These are the people who will help shape city operations and decisions over the next several years. — Get to know the members

Youth Council Expands

If you didn’t know this (I sure didn’t), Eagle Mountain has a Youth Council. This week, proposed changes to the Youth Council ordinance would open eligibility to students as young as 7th grade. The update also empowers the Youth Council to select their own "Youth Mayor," giving students more autonomy and a real leadership role in city government. If you have a teen interested in civic involvement, then send them this link here: https://eaglemountain.gov/government/youth-council/

Hidden Hollow: Pool vs. Gym Debate

Cadence Homes, the developer behind the Hidden Hollow townhomes, requested to swap the code-required swimming pool for a "wellness center" (gym) and outdoor gathering area. The developer argues that a pool is too expensive to maintain and only usable seasonally, citing a survey where 82% of residents preferred a gym. City code requires any alternative to offer equivalent cost and benefit—so the Council will weigh whether a gym meets that standard. For more info check out the Agenda Packet HERE.

Future Land Use Map Update

The City is updating its Future Land Use Map, the blueprint for what gets built where over the next decade. Two key changes: a new "Light Industry" category is being created specifically for data centers and energy facilities, separating them from general office-focused "Business Parks." And a new "Town Center Mixed Use" designation aims to create a traditional downtown core with civic buildings and public spaces—moving away from standalone residential blocks in those areas. For more info check out the Agenda Packet HERE.

PERSONAL STORY: WESTLAKE GLASS TO THE RESCUE

A couple of weeks ago, I was upstairs making dinner when my oldest daughter sprinted upstairs and yelled that her window broke. I rushed down to find shattered glass all over the windowsill and cold air pouring into her room.

After taping a board over the window (and a few choice words), I started researching how to get it replaced. That's when I found Westlake Glass.

Jordan Atkinson came out the next day, gave us a quote for a bedroom window, and mentioned a $50 discount for Eagle Mountain residents. Total came to $295. He told us the window could take up to two weeks to arrive—it showed up in less than a week. Caleb Strongo came out and installed it, and we were back to normal.

Not a sponsored mention—just a solid local experience worth sharing. If you're dealing with a broken window or need glass work, Westlake Glass is a quick phone call away. — Contact Westlake Glass

BEFORE YOU GO

Know a local business that deserves a shoutout? I'm always looking for Eagle Mountain businesses to feature—restaurants, shops, services, hidden gems. Just reply to this email and tell me about them.

See you around,

— Colten
